Thesis Project: The Elemental Swordsman

For my thesis project, I am designing a topdown 2D pixel art RPG game currently name the Elemental swordsman. This project has been inspired by my lifelong fascination with magic, and ancient weaponry. The player’s character will explore the world with their character to unlock different type of magics that the player can use by performing the proper weapon combos.

This combat system was derived from combo based fighting games, and draws inspiration from the combat system of Hyrule Warriors with simple swarming enemies and simple but flashy combos. My goal is to blend melee combat and a magic system together to create a unique game where magic is based off of swords instead of wands.

This project will be done in Unity 2D with the intention of presenting a single well functioning scene that allows the player to explore the combat system and gain magical elements by conquering objectives on the map.

Currently I am working solo on this project, however I have the confidence to meet my goal.
